Les Miserables Auditions

Forth Children’s Theatre is pleased to announce that we will present a production of Les Miserables during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2014.

This epic musical is now available for youth theatre to perform in a “schools edition”. “Les Mis” is a sung through musical based on the same name by French poet and playwright Victor Hugo. It portrays the journey of Jean Valjean, a burly French peasant of abnormal strength and potentially violent nature. The play features his plight for redemption after serving nineteen years in jail for having stolen a loaf of bread for his starving niece.

Founded in 1979, Forth Children’s Theatre has produced more than sixty productions, receiving wide spread critical acclaim. e have staged sell out performances of shows such as Little Shop of Horrors, The Wiz and Sweeney Todd. The company also won the Edinburgh Evening News Award for Best Musical in Fringe for Jekyll and Hyde (2008), Ragtime (2009), Guys and Dolls (2010) and Once on This Island (2012). With casts spanning the age range of ten to nineteen, Forth Children’s Theatre allows many young people to perform alongside professionally trained teams of technical and creative experts.

This production requires young people with a talent for singing, acting or dancing. There is a range of big principal roles as well as strong chorus parts to be filled.

Auditions will take place on Sunday 13 April from 10.00am – 6.00pm at Trinity Academicals Rugby Club. The day will take the format of morning workshops followed by small group auditions in front of the Directing team. It will be lots of hard work alongside a huge amount of fun. All material will be learnt in the morning so there is no need to prepare anything in advance. For casting purposes, filming of auditions may take place on the day. I would be grateful for people to highlight this to me in advance if there are any issues with this.

Please note – three full day rehearsals will take place on Thursday 17, Friday 18 and Saturday 19 April (the second week of the school holidays). These are crucial to the production and you must be able to make these dates in order to audition.

Thereafter, rehearsals will take place on Fridays (1800 – 2100) and Sundays (1200 – 1700) at Trinity Academicals Rugby Club. Attendance at each rehearsal is essential.

Please note you must be aged over ten by the start of show week. The show dates are Friday 1 until Saturday 9 August.

Please confirm your audition attendance to clairtyfct@live.co.uk.
